HE WILL BE DISHING UP STUFF ABOUT FINE WINE, AFTER AFFECTING, A COMIC COLLECTION TO EMBARRASS MOST DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS PLAYERS AND A JEFF STERLING KNOWLEDGE OF FOOTBALL.
SO IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR AGAIN, OUT WITH THE OLD, IN WITH THE NEW... THIS IS THE TIME OF YEAR THAT MOST PEOPLE START THINKING ABOUT NEW YEARS RESOLUTIONS AND, WELL, I AM NO DIFFERENT (ACTUALLY I AM, BECAUSE THAT'S NOT WHAT THINKING ABOUT THAT AT ALL). NO NO NO, I AM GOING TO GIVE YOU AN OUZO TOP 10 PREDICTION LIST FOR 2009. READ IT AND WEAP.
NUMBER 1: HIP-HOP IS GOING TO MAKE A PROPER COMEBACK! That's right, i can hear you all now 'no it isn't, how is that so...?'. Well it is just my opinion, I have heard lots of good stuff recently and i have a feeling you might just be rushing out to get a fresh pair of AF1's before you know it!
NUMBER 2: ARTHUR RUSSELL I have recently posted about the genius that is Arthur Russell and my prediction is that the cool kids are gonna go mad for this guy in 2009! He looks like every other joker in East London, just 20+ years ahead of his time. Musically brilliant, and one to watch! If you don't know about him, then get to know! NUMBER 3: BRITISH HOLIDAYS When people are trying to save cash, the logical thing to do is to cut back on luxuries. Overseas flights definitely fall into that category! Why samba in Brazil when you can go to Margate? Why go to Rockies when you can go to the Valley's? Surfing in Hawaai? Don't bother, just go to Cornwall instead. San Francisco... forget about it, we have Brighton!!!!! see, we have loads of places to take your hols... ; )
NUMBER 4: MOUSTACHES AND FLOPPY HAIR Oh...
NUMBER 5: COMMUNISM OK OK, the government isn't in danger of being overthrown, but I am refering to a communist attitude amongst the people rather than the political regiem! As money tightens we will all feel compelled to help our neighbour and share more and stuff... well it's a nice thought.
NUMBER 6: BANANA PHONE (ORIGINAL, NOT MATRIX RIP OFF) It's been too long, not enough people have given this beautiful piece of technology some love. In these times of Facebook, MySpace, the blogesphere and iPhones people are finding it harder to make time to think. Free yourself from your Blackberry and emails and give yourself some space. A phone which makes phone calls, revolutionary idea me thinks.
NUMBER 7: MINI DISC PLAYERS AND MINI DISCS Now i though these were cool the first time around but they still kick ass now! perfect re-recordable portable device, digital quality SUPER felxible. If you make music, like music, or just want something more reliable that a second generation iPod, then get one of these. Well worth it in my opinion! NUMBER 8: LIVERPOOL FC CROWNED PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPIONS It's gonna happen.
NUMBER 9: BIKES WITH BRAKES AND GEARS!!!!!! In the light 0f Britain's most successful Olympics in my lifetime, Chris Hoy was knighted yesterday, with half of the rest of the GB Olympic team. For those of you who don't know Chris Hoy, he is a track cyclist who won three gold medals this summer in Beijing and now a minor celeb who will do anything for some publicity! He won those medals riding a track bike (or what trendy kids call, a 'fixie') and contrary to what the guy selling you a 'fixie' would say, should be left on track! Chris Hoy DOESN'T ride his track bike on the road (he's a pro kids) so neither should you. Here's having no brakes or gears can be like on a TRACK with no TRAFFIC! So please go and buy some proper bikes, before there are no more plaid shirts or moustaches left in East London! Enjoy. x
NUMBER 10: CORDS I LOVE them. This is a complete shot in the dark, but i think you'll all be wearing them this time next year.
Easy people. Big love to Greekos....gonna have some hot quality for y'all - hip hop links and some guitar action coming your way in '09.
Hold tight!
Before I forget - we were blazing to these albums last night. Awesome Hungarian hip hop beats with a tech/dub flavour...DJ Cadik from the group Membran.
Introducing a new edition to the NOT READY family, guitar genius, Hip-Hop muso, and mac daddy of the mac FLYNT MARCO! FLYNT will be guest blogging on the site and I for one am looking forward to his first post!
here is another cut from ZOMBY, who I am a massive fan of. 'Where were you in 92' ' was definitely in my top three albums of the year!
Topping off a vintage year for Zomby releases, Hyperdub finally curl out the highly anticipated 'Zomby EP'. The man's mind has been brimming with ideas this year, from his liquid plastic version of Various' 'Hater' to the ridiculously spooned 'Liquid Dancehall' 12", it's become very apparent that the dancefloor is a different place now that Zomby has arrived alognside Rustie, Hud Mo, Ikonika and friends. The introductory track 'Spaceman' has just left us baffled at what rhythm to latch onto. 'Kaliko' stretches the wonky time sigantures right off the page again, with a seemingly freeflowing melody in the finest 'ZigZag' style. His knack for creating poignantly effective but brief tracks as espoused on 'Where Were You in '92' is revisited on 'Test Me for A reason', with a lamplit 2-step minidrama, which leads us into his most demanded track, 'Aquafresh'.
This is definitely worth the P's, even in these difficult economic times.
You may have noticed some of this stuff kicking around London, i have and have enjoyed seeing it. They are called CutUp Collective and are from London. Here are some bits of work and a link to their website. I for one would like to see more of this from UK based artists. ENJOY!
I went to the first one of these at Ministry, and to be fair, it was a bit of alright! Try and get down to see Plastician, who is a big live DJ, and Blackdown (one of the surprise packages in my opinion). Big up to you two.
I won't be reaching this, as I am away, but whether you are new to the scene or a full fledged Dubstep soldier, you should defo give this a go. LOOKS LIVE!
Kode 9 is back with some more spaced out sounds, although they seem to have evolved into a 'Zomby' rave type thing, very nice. Meanwhile, Quarta 330's 8 bit crusade continues, more of this please son. Both are massive, but don't take my word for it, have a listen...
ok, i hope you like what's happening. Keep checking out the blog for more design, music and some music, lots of Music. I will be posting a new OUZO beats and some more revies in the next couple days. Until then, LATER!
I hooked up with these guys a couple of months ago to conduct an interview. They were on the cusp of having their new T-Shirt range being launched and were just waiting on Customs to let them have their tings. Now, they have T's and are ready to roll. i will be meeting up with them for a second interview to how 2008 will be wrapped up for them.
BIG UP MARV, OWEN AND OLLA. See you soon.
PEACE
Founded as a collaborative project in 2007 by StolenSpace founder and illustrator, Owen Phillips and photographer Dav Stewart, the ALLCITY collective was intended as an outlet for creative projects. Over the past year, ALLCITY has gathered recognition as a prolific design collective, gaining commissions from Dazed&Confused, The Guardian, Faesthetic, Candy Collective Magazine and Passenger Records. The collective has also exhibited work in Saatchi&Saatchi and StolenSpace, and collaborated with photographer Fats Shariff.
The aim of the ALLCITY brand is to push their work in new directions by combining different mediums and skills and working with people across a wide variety of creative professions. The final outcome of a brief is never pre-determined; ALLCITY acts as a platform for creative freedom. With many exciting new projects planned for 2008, including the exclusive release of 6 limited edition t-shirts and a collaboration bike with Genesis, the ranks are already expanding, including the addition of set designer Jo Lee and typographer Victoria Walmsley.
ALLCITY grew from a philosophy of exploration and experimentation, drawing inspiration from many sources including border and youth cultures. Equally comfortable working for large organisations, ALLCITY also sees self-initiated work as a vital role, constantly realising ideas and learning new techniques.
The collective has created their first series of limited edition tees, inspired by the collective experiences of living in London and the daily struggles of finding one’s place.
ALLCITY products will be exclusively available at NatterJacks in Kingston and Goodhood in East London as well as online at www.allcitycreative.com. ALLCITY is more than a brand, it‘s a group of people that enjoy working together and achieving more together.
